What is a DBA?
A DBA (“doing business as”) is a name your business uses that’s different from its legal name. It’s often called a “fictitious business name.” Sole proprietors and partnerships commonly use DBAs so they don’t have to operate under a personal name.
DBA requirements vary by state and local government. In general, you’ll:
File paperwork with your state or county
Pay a filing fee (not from Novo ) – often $10–$100
Even if your state doesn’t require a DBA, you may still want to register one to protect yourself and your business. And if you want to use a DBA with your Novo account, you’ll need to provide proof of the DBA.
