Why is there a hold on my debit card?

Some businesses, like hotels, gas stations, or rental car companies, place temporary holds to make sure the money is available.

The hold is replaced by the final charge once the transaction goes through.

Holds usually clear in a few business days, but can take up to 30 days, depending on the business.
