Why do my payee’s account details look different from what they see?
If your payee connects their account using Plaid, you may see an account number that looks unfamiliar or doesn’t match what they see.
Some banks (like Chase or PNC Bank) use secure connections that provide a virtual or tokenized account number instead of the real one. These are sometimes called Virtual Account Numbers (VANs) or Tokenized Account Numbers (TANs).
They are there to protect your payee’s real account details. Even though the number looks different, it still works the same way for sending payments.
In short, the number you see is secure by design, and your payment will still go to the right account.
