Can I stop a payment that I already authorized and sent?

Updated June 18, 2026

It depends on how you sent the money. Some payments can be stopped, others can’t.

Mailed checks You may be able to cancel a check if it was just created. If not, contact support to request a stop payment.

ACH payments (bank transfers) If the transfer hasn’t been processed yet, you can cancel the transaction. To stop future withdrawals from a business, you can place an ACH stop payment.

Debit card payments You can’t cancel a debit card transaction once it’s sent. After it settles, you can file a dispute in the app.

Third-party payments If you used another service, you’ll need to contact them directly: Wise (for wires) Cash App (for P2P payments)

Remember, timing matters here. The sooner you act, the more likely you can stop or cancel the payment.
