What business documents do I need to open an account?

Updated June 18, 2026

It depends on your business type and state.

Here is what's needed during the application.

Everyone needs to be 18 or older with a:
Valid government-issued photo ID
Social Security number (SSN)
US cell phone number (major carriers only)
US address

Business documents vary by business type. Requirements are different for sole proprietors, LLCs, partnerships, and corporations, and they can also vary by state. And just know that if anything’s missing, it can delay your application.

If you haven’t registered your business, you can apply as a sole proprietor. You won’t need formation documents, but you do need an EIN.

If you use a business name that isn’t your legal name, you’ll need a DBA (Doing Business As) document.
